National Merit Selection Index
PSAT/NMSQTNMSC doubles your Reading and Writing score, adds your Math score, and divides by 10. The range is 48–228.
Only the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the correct year (usually junior year) enters you in the program. Semifinalist cutoffs are set by state each year and published by NMSC; this tool does not predict them.

What a PSAT score says about the SAT
The SAT, PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 are on one vertical scale. College Board describes a PSAT score as an estimate of how you would have scored on the SAT that day. The PSAT tops out at 1520 because it doesn't include the hardest SAT content.

How the digital tests work
The SAT, PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 share the same format: two sections, each split into two modules, taken on a laptop or tablet in College Board's Bluebook app.

Reading and Writing
2 × 27 q · 32 min eachShort passages (25–150 words), one question each. Questions of the same type are grouped and ordered easiest to hardest.
Math
2 × 22 q · 35 min eachAbout 75% multiple choice and 25% student-produced response. A calculator is allowed on every question, and Desmos is built into Bluebook.
Module 1 sets up module 2
Each section is multistage adaptive. Module 1 has a broad mix of easy, medium and hard questions. How you do on it decides whether module 2 is easier or harder. The harder route unlocks the top of the score range, so accuracy in module 1 matters.
Move freely, flag, come back
Within a module you can skip, flag questions for review, and return to them before time runs out. Once a module ends you can't go back. There's no penalty for wrong answers, so answer every question.

Desmos moves that save time
- Type both sides of an equation as separate lines, then click the intersection to solve.
- Graph a quadratic to read its vertex, zeros and y-intercept directly.
- Use a slider (type y = ax + 3) to test which constant makes a condition true.
- For "how many solutions" questions, count intersection points.
- Type a data list [4, 7, 7, 9, 13] then mean(...) or stdev(...).

Answering student-produced response
- Positive answers can be up to 5 characters, negative up to 6 (including the minus sign).
- Fractions and decimals are both fine. Don't enter mixed numbers: type 7/2 or 3.5, not 3 1/2.
- Don't include symbols like $, % or commas.
- If there's more than one correct answer, enter just one.

What to bring
Don't bring (or keep powered off and stored)
- Phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers and other electronics, except your testing device and an approved calculator. Staff will tell you where to store them.
- Notes, books, highlighters or scratch paper of your own. Scratch paper is provided.
- Calculators with QWERTY keyboards, internet access or that make noise.
